The situation

Bagelsmith is a one-location bagel shop at 1111 Magie Ave in Union, New Jersey, a few blocks from Kean University. The owner has spent 30 years in the restaurant business, but the bagel shop is new. It opened with no history, no reviews, and no name recognition, in a town where the competition includes a national chain with a corporate website and a store down the road.

A new restaurant's hardest problem is simple: nobody knows it is there.

The shop needed its website to do one job: show up first when someone in Union pulls out a phone and looks for bagels, before anyone has heard the name.

What Ricavvo built

A real site about one shop in one town. Fast pages built for phones, because a bagel customer is standing on a sidewalk, not sitting at a desk. Real photos, the real menu, hours, and location on the first screen.

Search pages that a template cannot have. Pages written for the searches people in Union actually make: bagels near Kean University, lox and smoked salmon platters, Taylor ham egg and cheese, gluten-friendly options, office and corporate catering, bagels by the dozen.

All three ordering platforms, side by side. DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub links on the site so customers choose and the shop is not married to any one of them.

Google Business Profile kept current. Hours, photos, menu, and posts, because most "near me" searches are decided in the map results before anyone reaches a website.

Measured monthly. Search Console and Business Profile data pulled and tracked, so the owner sees what the work produces and not just that it exists.

The result

Six months of Google Search Console data, April through September 2026:

  • 4,208 clicks from Google to the website, from 83,098 times the site appeared in results. About 700 visits a month.
  • #1 for "bagels Union NJ" and "bagel shop Union NJ." Page one for "best bagels in Union NJ," "bagels Union Township," and "bagel and lox Union NJ."
  • "bagels near me," the single biggest search in the category, appeared 6,779 times with the site averaging position 6 in the web results.
  • Catering climbed to #2. "bagel catering Union NJ" averaged position 7.8 over the six months and position 2.1 in the most recent 28 days. The pages did the work over the summer.
  • 87% of clicks are on mobile, where the site averages position 6 across every search it appears for. On desktop it averages 18. The customers are on phones, and that is where the site wins.
  • Roughly a quarter of all visits came from searches that did not include the shop's name. For a shop nobody had heard of six months earlier, those are the customers Google introduced.

The first result for bagels in Union is the newest bagel shop in town.

“I've been in the restaurant business 30 years, but the bagel shop was new, and nobody knew we were here. John and Taylor built the website and now when you search bagels in Union, we come up first. People walk in every week and say they found us on Google. For a new place, that's everything.”
